Reassurance. It’s invaluable when you’re recovering from a major surgery or serious illness and
are preparing to move back home. That’s why Catalyst Rehabilitation at Friendship Haven takes a team approach to guide you every step of the way.
“We want you to feel confident and relaxed,” says Deanne Ebelsheiser, rehab transitional coordinator for Catalyst Rehabilitation and the skilled care neighborhood at Tompkins Health Center at Friendship Haven. “We encourage you to ask questions, and we take the time to explain what you need to know so you can take more control of your health.”

- Helping you understand the importance of following your doctor’s orders.
- Explaining what to expect from pain relief treatments.
- Sharing information about why specific medications have been prescribed for you.
- Ensuring that you understand the nurses’ explanations.
- Encouraging you to take ownership of your health.
The Catalyst team meets daily so they can provide you with the right solutions throughout the rehabilitation process and meet your unique needs at discharge and beyond. This can include arranging oxygen supplies, Meals on Wheels, a Link to Life personal emergency response, or other services to help you regain as much freedom and independence as possible when you return home.
Focusing on the whole person, not just the illness or injury, is important to the Catalyst team, says Paula Ayala, Catalyst’s rehab assessment coordinator. “By working together, we set up you up for success.”
