Spiritual Care
Spiritual care is woven into the fabric of daily life at Friendship Haven. Residents can continue to worship at their chosen spiritual home or become a part of Friendship Haven’s non-denominational, on-site congregation.
Receive personalized support from the chaplain, including grief counseling, hospital visits, emotional and spiritual guidance, and assistance with receiving sacraments or rites.
Volunteer to provide support to residents facing health or personal challenges.
Worship at our traditional Sunday morning service.
Participate in weekly Bible studies and devotional services.
Join our chorus and handbell choir, which performs at Vespers and other special events.
These offerings reflect the vision of Friendship Haven’s founder, Rev. Dr. Clarence Tompkins, who understood that spiritual wellness provides meaning and purpose. As Friendship Haven grows, we’re energized about expanding our avenues of spiritual care to enrich the lives of those we serve. Please reach out if you have any questions.

Outdoor Areas
Residents can enjoy beautiful outdoor areas on campus, perfect for relaxation and recreation.
Trails
Friendship Haven features a mile-long trail system with wide, accessible paths for walking, biking, or simply enjoying the scenic campus. Residents can borrow a wheelchair bicycle or recumbent bike, and along the trail, there are donated benches for resting and relaxation.
Jolin’s Terrace
Jolin’s Terrace at Simpson Health Center encourages activity for all ages with a wheelchair-accessible gazebo, butterfly garden, fire pit, raised gardens, putting green, fountain, walking bridge, and playground. This space supports Trilogy Therapy by enhancing residents' balance, endurance, and dexterity while offering the mental benefits of gardening.
Resident Garden
Our community garden invites seasoned gardeners and newcomers alike to enjoy fresh air, soil, and sunshine. Residents find peace while engaging in activities like weeding and harvesting. Established in 2016 by Master Gardener Andrea Doster, the garden is nestled between the Wellness Center and Journeys Building on our north campus.
Travel Club
The Friendship Haven Travel Club offers adventures near and far, from tropical cruises to live shows at Okoboji Summer Theater and Broadway performances in Des Moines. We handle transportation, meals, and tickets. To join or reserve your spot, call Steven Ehrhardt at (515) 573-6852.
