Nurse Informaticist

Purpose of the Position:

 

This position is responsible for accurately documenting all patient information electronically within a healthcare system's EHR (electronic health records), ensuring data integrity, proper categorization, and accessibility for medical professionals while also promoting efficient clinical workflow and quality patient care through effective use of the electronic health record system. 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Accurately capturing all relevant patient details, including medical history, medications, vital signs, assessments, treatments, and progress notes within the EHR system. 

  • Following established guidelines for documenting patient care in a clear, concise, and standardized manner within the EHR. 

  • Organizing and maintaining patient records electronically, ensuring data is easily accessible and retrievable. 

  • Maintaining a high level of knowledge regarding EHR functionalities, including order entry, charting tools, clinical decision support features, and reporting capabilities. 

  • Educating patients on their electronic medical records and how to access relevant health information. 

  • Identifying and reporting data discrepancies, contributing to system optimization and quality improvement initiatives related to EHR usage. 

  • Working closely with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, other nurses, and administrative staff, to ensure seamless communication and accurate data sharing within the EHR. 

  • While technically proficient with the EHR system, they also maintain a strong understanding of clinical practices and patient care. 

  • May be involved in training other healthcare staff on how to use the EHR system and helping to implement new features. 

  • Ability to adapt to new technology and system updates.

  • Possess excellent follow-through skills and be self-motivated to work independently.

  • Attend meetings as needed and sit on committees, as requested.

  • Attend meetings as required, such as QAPI and Nurse meetings.

  • On call rotation with SHC Supervisor Nursing team, as assigned.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing.

Minimum Requirements

·        Licensure:  RN or LPN.

·        Experience: Working in aging-related environments.

  • Strong computer literacy and proficiency in electronic health record systems

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical practice guidelines

·        CPR Certification or ability to become certified.  

 

Physical Demands

·        Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves during work hours.

·        Willing to work beyond normal working hours, and on weekends and holidays when necessary.

·        Should be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.

 

Mental Demands

·        Subject to frequent interruptions.

·        May be subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, families and visitors.
